DIY Mummy Halloween Banner: Easy Halloween Decoration

This DIY Mummy Halloween Banner is one of those Halloween crafts that looks like you spent way more time making it than you did. I made this banner in less than 30 minutes using leftover wood pieces, gauze, paint, and googly eyes.

I love a Halloween project that doesn’t require a giant shopping list or an entire afternoon.

This one started with some leftover wooden triangle pieces I had from another project. Instead of letting them sit in my stash, I turned them into the cutest little mummy banner.

Supplies Used To Make This Mummy Halloween Banner:

Unfinished Triangle Shaped Banner

Black Craft Paint

Gauze

Tacky Craft Glue 

Googly Eyes

Hot Glue Gun 

I used leftover triangle-shaped wood pieces from another project, but you don’t have to use triangles.

You could cut your own pieces from scrap wood or use another shape you already have.

This is one of those projects where I would look around your craft stash before buying anything.

You probably have more supplies than you think.

How to Make a DIY Mummy Halloween Banner

Step 1: Paint the Wood Pieces

Start by painting each wooden piece black. Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Wrap the Wood With Gauze

Cut pieces of gauze that are long enough to wrap around each wooden piece.

Start wrapping the gauze around the wood, crossing it over the front and back as you go.

Don’t worry about making every mummy exactly the same.

I actually like it better when the gauze looks a little messy.

Mummies aren’t supposed to have perfectly straight wrapping.

Step 3: Secure the Gauze

Once you have the gauze wrapped the way you want it, use a small amount of Tacky Glue to secure it.

You could also use hot glue if that’s what you have on hand.

Just make sure the gauze is secured enough that it doesn’t come loose when you hang the banner.

Step 4: Add the Googly Eyes

Now comes the part that turns painted wood and gauze into little mummies.

Glue googly eyes onto each piece.

You can use two eyes on each mummy, or have some fun with the placement.

Try using different sizes of googly eyes if you have them.

A few slightly crooked eyes make the mummies even cuter.

 

Step 5: Add the Mummies to Twine

Next, once everything is completely dry, attach the mummy pieces to your twine.

Furthermore, you can space them evenly or allow extra space between some of the pieces.

Additionally, the length of your banner is completely up to you.

Make six mummies for a small decoration or keep adding pieces until you have a banner long enough for your mantel or party space.

 

Easy Ways to Customize Your Mummy Banner

The fun part about DIY Halloween decor is making it your own. Try:

• Different shapes: Use whatever scrap wood you have or mix a few shapes.
• Different colors: Try white, gray, or tan for a different look.
• Messier mummies: Wrap the gauze loosely and let some pieces hang off the edges.
• Different eyes: Mix up the sizes, placement, or even use just one eye on some mummies.
• Make it longer: Just add more mummies to create a longer Halloween garland.

 

An Easy Halloween Craft You Can Make Again and Again

I love projects like this because they don’t have to be perfect. The mummies can be a little crooked. The gauze can be uneven. And the googly eyes don’t have to match.
