I picked up these jack-o-lantern cutouts without really having a plan for them. I started seeing people paint pumpkin cutouts to create a vintage look. I decided to give it a try. I love vintage Halloween wall decor. It can be hard to find, and when you do, it isn’t always cheap.
It was so easy to give these inexpensive pumpkin cutouts that vintage look. With a little paint and a Sharpie, they went from basic decorations to vintage-inspired Halloween wall hangings that looked like something I would have happily picked up while thrifting.

Supplies for Vintage Halloween Wall Decor
Here is what I used to turn the Dollar Tree pumpkin cutouts into vintage-inspired Halloween decorations.
- Unfinished jack-o-lantern cutouts
- Orange paint
- Black paint
- Green paint
- Yellow paint
- Paintbrushes
- Large black Sharpie marker
- Twine or ribbon for hanging
You can use whatever paint you have on hand for this project. I had the paint linked above on hand. Make sure to watch my video below to see how I mixed colors to get the look I wanted.
How to Make Vintage Halloween Wall Decor
- Paint the Pumpkin Orange
I painted the pumpkin with orange paint. You may need more than one coat depending on the paint you use.
- Paint the Stem
Once the orange paint was dry, I mixed green and black paint to paint the stem.
- Add Yellow Accents
Next, I added yellow accents to the eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Add Black Details
Once everything was completely dry, I used the black Sharpie to add the outline and details. You can see the photos and the video below to see where I used it.
That’s it!
A few inexpensive pumpkin cutouts and some paint turned into vintage Halloween wall decor that looks much more expensive and special than where it started.
