DIY Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornament

October 27, 2017 52 Comments

This Christmas Ornament idea has been in my mind for the past few months. For me, ideas for projects come to me in many different forms, during the wrong seasons and in round about ways. When I made my free fall printable, I loved the simplicity of the wreath I put on there.

Then, when I was searching for wreaths and finally came up with the DIY wreaths for the chairs we hung in our entry, an idea for a Christmas ornament came to mind.

Seasonal projects always come early in Blog Land and I knew I was part of the 31 Handmade Christmas Ornaments again this year so I had “ornaments” in the back of my mind.

With all the fall projects I did, this Christmas ornament came about pretty easily this year.

Supplies Used To Make An Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornament:

4″ Embroidery Hoops

Dark Walnut Stain

Hot Glue

Winter Greenery (I cut up a garland that I wasn’t going to use anymore)

Small Pine Cones

Small Wood Beads

Grain Stripe Fabric (or any fabric you want to use)

Scissors

Pen

Jute Twine or Baker’s Twine (or any ribbon that you have on hand)

Making your own Christmas ornaments are so much fun! This DIY embroidery hoop Christmas ornament is easy to make and looks great in the tree!

This Christmas ornament was so easy to make.

I started off by staining all of the embroidery hoops in Dark Walnut stain.

Once they were dry, I traced the hoops onto pieces of fabric from a Christmas garland I was not going to use anymore. (You could use any fabric or paper you had for this. I cut up a plaid scarf for the extra hoops I had and loved them just as much!)

I cut out the circles that I traced and hot glued them to the back of the hoops.

Then, I hot glued a piece of garland to the inside “ledge” of the embroidery hoop.

Next, I hot glued a tiny pine cone and some wood beads onto the garland.

Then, I tied some just twine into a bow and hot glued it to the top of the embroidery hoop.

Last, I tied jute twine or baker’s twine around the top of the Christmas ornament to make the “hanger” for the tree.

That’s it!

These ornaments are so cute! I need to make more and hang them on garland and wreaths we have around the house during the holidays.

Here is a short video to show you the creation process:

    Hi Lindsay,

These are so fun and I have to tell you that I made embroidered ornaments using the hoops like this recently. I even thought of using them for this hop. Of course they are different than yours, but it’s funny how creative people think alike. Mine won’t be published until mid-Nov. So fun seeing everyone’s great creations!

Lindsay this is such a sweet and creative ornament. I love the fabric you chose and how you stained your hoops too. It’s the little things you do that make your ornaments extraordinary.

I’m so glad you joined up with us this year.

This is the cutest ornament! The dark stain and striped fabric give it a cozy look that I love. I also love the vignette you created under the tree with the crate, truck, and thermos.

I get inspired when I see items being repurposed for decorative reasons. Using the embroidery hoop as the base for an ornament is so clever and makes one beautiful tree ornament.
