DIY Commode Makeover

3 Mins read

This DIY commode makeover makes me so happy. I love little pieces like this. We have smaller spaces in our home so I am drawn to smaller pieces. I got to use a new-to-me color on this makeover and I think it turned out so pretty.

What is a commode?

Definitions of commode:

1. a low chest of drawers

2. a movable washstand with a cupboard underneath

3. a boxlike structure holding a chamber pot under an open seat

after paint

I think there are different representations of commodes and this piece does fit a couple of the definitions above.

It is also what I look up on Pinterest for inspiration for pieces like this, so there’s that. 🙂

This DIY Commode Makeover is a great example of how easy some furniture makeovers can be by just cleaning, painting, and glazing.

This piece did not need any repairs. It was in great condition. It could not sell as it was so I decided to try a paint color I have never used before. The paint color is called “Dried Thyme”.

When I opened the can of paint it was the most beautiful green color. If you have been around for some time you know my love for green.

I was excited to apply it to this commode.

After I put two coats of paint on the piece, it wasn’t as dark as I thought it would be.

PRO TIP: Painting furniture is just like painting walls. The colors will look different on every piece.

Since this piece didn’t take the color as I thought it would, I needed to add some glaze to deepen the color a bit.

I chose “Grunge” glaze. It is easy to use and adds some depth and gives a paint color a worn-in look that I love.

That was it!

It was done after the glaze was dry.

I did add some hardware we had on hand. The hardware it came with was just too much for this piece.

I have to tell you that having an easy project is such a welcomed DIY. I am usually picking up pieces that need a lot. This one was so easy compared to most of my projects.

I did share a behind-the-scenes look while I was working on this project (like I do all of my projects) on my Instagram page. Make sure you are following me HERE so you can see more projects while I am working on them in real-time.
