Schedule Breaks

We can all benefit from taking more breaks. There is something so good about taking a break from the normal day-to-day. Not just vacation breaks but actually breaks during our every day as well. We live in a world where we are inundated with information all the time. We are addicted to our phones, social media, and constant stimulation. Breaks aren’t valued enough. We are fed the line that we need to be hustling all the time if we want to get ahead. It isn’t true and it isn’t sustainable. It’s not healthy to be “hustling” 24/7 – 365 days a year. A break can do so much for your mind, body, and soul. A break should be scheduled. It should be scheduled just like any other important appointment would be. A break will refresh your creativity by opening up space to let creativity in.Do you get discouraged when you hit a creative slump? Be present. Take in your surroundings all the time. Be open to finding inspiration in the most random places. Making this a habit will sharpen your creative juices. If you are constantly present, you will notice things you wouldn’t otherwise. When you are present, ideas and inspiration will show up when you least expect it. It is the nicest surprise when it happens. Next time you are outside walking or in a new store, be present. What colors do you see? What sounds do you hear? Unplug

Do I need to say anything else? This is something that everybody needs more of. We need to let our minds wander without taking anything in from our phones, social media, the internet, etc. Unplugging more will keep our creativity working. Creative people need some time and space to think on their own. They need to mull over things without distraction. Making it a priority to unplug every day is such a game-changer when it comes to keeping your creative juices flowing.

Start With A Blank Slate

No matter what you need to be creative with, it is important to start with a blank slate. When you hit a creative slump, work with a blank slate. If you need to write something, start with a blank sheet of paper or a blank computer screen. Are you decorating? Start with an empty room, shelf, mantel. If you need to think creatively or come up with a creative solution, clear your mind and start fresh. Need to paint something? Start with a blank canvas. Whatever the creative process is that you need to tackle, start with a blank slate. There will be no distractions, no swaying one way or the other, no fuzzy areas. It will be clear, unbiased, and open to creativity.

I hope you will try one or all of these things that will save your creative juices. If you do, I would love to hear from you.
