Side note: I was working on this piece on a very hot day. Do not do that. I had a red umbrella open above me, so the colors when outdoors had a red hue to them.
Best Olive Green Paint Color – Hampton Olive
For this furniture makeover, I chose Hampton Olive, a beautiful olive green shade that gives this piece a rich, classic look.
One of my favorite things about painting furniture is seeing how a simple color change can completely change the personality of a piece. A dated or overlooked piece of furniture can become something that looks custom and unique with the right paint color.

Supplies Used for This Makeover
- Hampton Olive furniture paint
- Sander
- Cleaning supplies
- Paintbrush
- Drop cloth
- New hardware (optional)
- MUD filler if your piece needs it
- Furniture salve
Quick Best Olive Green Paint Color Tutorial:
This piece was pretty straightforward. I cleaned it really well with vinegar and water. Then, I scuff-sanded the entire piece.
After that, I used a damp cloth to remove any of the sanding dust. Then, I filled a small area that needed some MUD.
Once that was dry, I sanded that area smooth and wiped away any sanding dust. I did have a leftover back plate piece from another project that fit this piece perfectly, so I just sanded and painted it and secured it to the top. It worked perfectly! DO NOT throw away those extra pieces. You can use them on other projects.
Since I was using my favorite all-in-one paint, the priming, painting, and top coating were all done with one can and in one step! I SWEAR BY THIS PAINT! It makes your projects go so much faster (you get rid of so many steps), and you save so much money because you aren’t having to buy multiple products.
It took two coats of paint to cover this piece. Once the second coat dried, I added some different hardware that I had in my stash. Then, I applied furniture salve inside the drawers to freshen the wood.
