DIY Gingerbread House Ornaments

2 Mins read

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here! I started decorating last weekend and have been creating some new things to add to the house this year. One of my favorite things about decorating for Christmas is taking all the bins out of storage. I am a huge clearance shopper after the holidays and I can never remember what I picked up the previous year. When we get the bins out, it is like Christmas morning because I don’t know what is inside. I opened a bin and found some paper mache ornaments I grabbed at a thrift store and forgot about. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them so I set them aside while I decorated. After I decorated the $2.99 mantel we added to the living room, I thought it needed something else so I turned each paper mache ornament into a miniature DIY gingerbread house for the mantel.

This project couldn’t be easier.
I recorded a video of how I made each DIY gingerbread house which you can find on my YouTube channel HERE.

The possibilities for these paper mache houses are endless. You could paint them any way you want to go with the Christmas decor in your house. Whatever way you paint them, I feel like the fine glitter made all the difference in the houses. It added sparkle and whimsy to them which they needed.

The houses are super cute on the mantel, but they may end up in another place in the house. I feel like I am always “putzing” with the Christmas decor when I first put it up. I move things around a lot. It takes me a couple of days of living in the rooms when they are decorated to get them just right. It is still early in the game so things will be moved a few times before I get it just right.

Now that these are done, we can’t wait to make the real gingerbread houses. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving when the boxed sets goes on sale. We have the most fun putting them together and make a night out of it as a family.

Does your family make gingerbread houses during the holidays?
