Summer Home Tour – Using What You Have

July 9, 2018 35 Comments

It has been a long time since I have joined my blogging friends for a blog hop so I am so excited to be collaborating with them today to show you our summer home tour 2018 with small vignettes around the house.

With every decorating post I share, I want to encourage you to not stress about it. Decorating should be fun. You can’t mess it up. The worst thing that could happen is that you don’t like it and then you adjust things in a new way to see what you really love.

Changing decor for a new season doesn't have to be hard or cost a lot of money. Click over to see how easy this summer home tour 2018 came together by using pieces we already had on hand.

This summer home tour 2018 could not be more simple. I have wanted to soak up as much of summer as we can while still working and having the kids home all summer. It hasn’t been easy, but I knew the house decor had to be easy and not fussy. Summer means I have been hunting at yard sales and have new things I want to add to the decor.

It also means that I purge things to keep it clean, simple and not overly stuffed. I share that all the time; when you decorate, immediately get rid of what you don’t love. Get it out of the space so it stops cluttering your mind and you can move on with things you love.

When I thought about this summer home tour 2018, I thought about how we are going to spend the time in our home this summer. Hopefully, we aren’t spending a lot of time indoors and are out adventuring and making memories. The reality is that I still have to work so some days we are at home so it has to be super comfortable for our family.

I brought in some new throw pillows to make the sofa super comfortable for summer reading and lazy lounging.

The easiest way to switch-up decor for any season, holiday, celebration, etc. is one of my favorite things – wood letter boards! This board is one of my favorite things right now. It is so fun to add different messages to the family on it. Coming up with great sayings to share on Instagram or highlight a summer menu has been frequent around here since I got it. The wood letter boards come in many sizes and colors. You can find them HERE.

Another easy place for me to change decor is the antique hutch in the living room. For summer, I added tattered vintage quilts I found at a yard sale, some pots I picked up at Hobby Lobby and more “green” to the hutch with pieces I already had on hand.

I think the quilts alone add so many fun colors for summer.

On the other side of the living room, I took everything out of the wood basket from Kirklands and added three of my vintage scales to it. That is it.

The dining room got a little summer makeover as well. The “gather” sign from Small Woods Signs was the perfect size and was exactly what I was looking for in this space.

I added a thrift store lemon tree to the cabinet above our built-ins. It is an easy touch to add the summer season in this space.

When I was taking photos for this summer home tour 2018, the sun was coming in so pretty in the living room that I had to take a photo. I almost didn’t post this photo because if you see in the green magazine holder on the left, there is a baseball man sticking out. If you follow me on Instagram {HERE} you know the inside joke, but basically Matt and the kids picked up this guy for free at a yard sale because they knew it would drive me crazy.

I don’t like a lot of random stuff around. Anyway, they have been hiding him around the house in hopes that he would accidentally make it onto the blog someday. Now, it is a running joke and one I share in my Instagram stories when I find him. The kids have had a blast with hiding him every day and will be so happy to see him here in the post. It has definitely made some fun summer memories around here.

Summer is a great time to make decorating easy. Venture out to your local yard sales and see what things you can find. Think outside of the box and cultivate a home that is uniquely your style all while saving a ton of money doing it.

It just makes to realize how important every moment is. Love your relaxed style. It’s so warm and inviting. Big hugs, CoCo

Love your easy going summer style; very relaxing! The baseball man hiding around reminds me how my family has an obnoxious red feather that seems to get stuck in all kinds of crazy decorating places at our cabin; good family memory making!

It is! We are having a lot of fun with that guy and they even picked up a pair of pink plastic flamingos that were missing legs at a yard sale. They hide those every day in the yard. 🙂
