This Olive Green Hutch Makeover started with one of my favorite kinds of finds, a yard sale piece you just don’t see very often. My daughter and her friend were out at a sale about twenty-five minutes away, and they knew I would love it. She Facetimed me and showed me all the great things at the sale, and there it was, this beautiful hutch waiting for me to pick it up.

I was actually painting at our latest flip house at the time, but I dropped my brush, and drove the twenty-five minutes to the sale in my paint clothes and all. As soon as I got to the sale, I thought: my daughter knows me so well. The sale was such a good one. I picked up the hutch for just $20 (and a few other things. I always share my yard sale and thrift hauls on my YouTube channel HERE). $20 is a steal for a piece like this. You really don’t see these pieces very often, so when I find one, I grab it.

The Olive Green Hutch Makeover
Once I got it home, I knew I wanted a fresh, neutral color that would bring it back to life. I reached for my favorite all-in-one paint: Dixie Belle Silk Paint. This paint is so easy to use, it is self-leveling, comes in so many beautiful colors, and the primer, paint, and topcoat are in one can!
I chose an olive green color because it’s warm, versatile, and just so pretty on furniture. It felt perfect for this hutch and really makes the details pop. I applied two coats and finished it with a protective topcoat to make sure it lasts.

Supplies I Used for This Olive Green Hutch Makeover
- Dixie Belle Silk All-in-One Paint
- Paintbrush
- Restor-A-Finish
- Sander
- Drill – for removing and reattaching hardware

The Transformation
The first thing I always do with my furniture makeovers is remove all the hardware and clean the piece really well. I share all how to clean furniture before a makeover in my post HERE.
Then, I ALWAYS scuff-sand my pieces before applying any paint, even the all-in-one paint. I talk all about scuff-sanding and regular sanding in my post HERE.

Then, I apply the Silk paint. I usually do two coats, but it still saves me so much time because I am not having to do three coats of three different products (primer, paint, and topcoat) becasue they are all in this one can! This stuff is a game-changer!!

Depending on whether the drawers and/or shelves need it, I may apply salve or Restor-A-Finish. For this hutch, I used the Restor.

Then, I will add hardware back on the piece.

I LOVE this piece so much!

I would love to find a place for it, but I may have to sell it.

Whenever I can find pieces that are pretty, have storage, and can be used in so many different ways, I get so excited to bring them back to life.

This piece could be used in a bedroom, family room, entry, or even dining room.

Finding a piece like this for $20 and giving it a new life is why I love furniture makeovers so much. This Olive Green Hutch Makeover reminds me why you need to stop at yard sales! You never know what gems you’ll find! And using Dixie Belle Silk Paint makes the whole process simple and fun.

That’s truly beautiful! I want to repaint my desk area in the same sort of understated green, the Silk Mineral formula. I love how that looks.
