Green Chalkboard: How To Make One From A Thrifted Frame

2 Mins read

If you are new to My Creative Days, you may not know that I have an obsession with the color green. It has always been my favorite color and I love to bring it into our home when I can. The desk in my office is one of the most popular pictures from the blog because of the green color. Today, I am going to share the green chalkboard we made using a thrifted frame, a thin piece of plywood and some paint.

I have to tell you a little but about the table the chalkboard is sitting on. I was at a yard sale this summer and there was a pile of four, chippy legs and two chippy board laying in a pile next to the garage. The finish on the legs was so good, so I asked if they were for sale. He said I could have to pile for FREE!!!

I brought it home not knowing what it was and Matt was able to put the pieces back together and then we had a base of a table! We stained and cut a top and now we have the cutest little table!!! I wanted to share this story to inspire you to show yard sales and when you are there, ask about things they may not have a price tag but are catching your eye. Who knows, you may come home with a FREE table!

I think that green chalkboards are so classic. They remind me of old classrooms and schools. Black chalkboards are great too, but when I started this project, I knew I wanted to paint the chalkboard green. I painted the frame “Drop Cloth” from Dixie Belle Paint to brighten it up a bit.

As you can see, the chalkboard project really is an easy one. There are always frames at thrift stores. If you can’t find a stand alone frame, you could buy a picture and take the glass and picture out and use the frame for this project. Restore is a great place to find pieces of thin plywood.

In under 30 minutes (that’s including painting time) you can have a fun chalkboard to use for all kinds of things; menus, lists, homework, chores, etc.

Do you have chalkboards in your home? What do you use them for?
