DIY Red, White & Blue Rectangular Planter

2 Mins read

I did this project when a group of bloggers and I would come together to share a makeover based on a theme. The theme for this particular makeover was Red, White and Blue. I turned a curbside rescue into a patriotic rectangular planter for this makeover.

The struggle was real with this one. I was actually to the point that I thought I wouldn’t be able to deliver a project for it. As panic mode set in, I thought it would be easier to skip this project and focus on next month’s theme. Then, as I was about to call it quits, a curbside rescue saved the day.

This little guy was out on the curb waiting to be rescued. I liked the shape of it and the three compartments were perfect for red, white and blue.

Look at it now!

I used left over paints that I had from other projects. For some reason, it took many coats to cover the ivy stencil someone put on it. It was like this project just didn’t want to happen for me.

But……. I prevailed.

I went to Lowes and bought a bunch of $1 annuals that were on clearance. The green looks great against the patriotic colors, but I am excited to see the flowers start popping out too.

The paint colors I chose for this planter were “Devotion” from Country Chic Paint, “Picket Fence” from Fusion Mineral Paint, and a blue color I mixed from paints I had on hand.

I never underestimate what a little curbside shopping can do. Next time if I am having a hard time coming up with ideas, I will get in the van and cruise around in search for inspiration. 🙂
