If your shower tile is outdated but in great condition and you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars tearing everything out, this budget shower tile makeover without demolition is for you. In one weekend, you can give your bathroom a fresh, modern look without dust, debris, or the stress of a full remodel. I’ll walk you through exactly what we did in our latest flip house, link to the paint kit we have used many times, and share my full step-by-step tutorial so you can tackle this project yourself.
This was what the bathroom looked like the day we closed on this flip project.

We knew we would be doing a lot to this bathroom and started budgeting for what it needed.
The tile was in great condition, but the attached soap dish was cracked and needed to be removed.

That left a hole in the tile that we needed to fix.

We replaced that area with two new white tiles from Home Depot. They cost 28¢ each. Once the two new tiles were in and everything had dried, it was time to get all the tiles matched with some white tile paint.
Why Choose a Budget Shower Tile Makeover Without Demolition?
Ripping out tile is messy, expensive, and time-consuming. With this method, you:
- Avoid demolition entirely.
- Save thousands of dollars in contractor costs.
- Finish in a weekend or less.
- Get a durable, updated finish that looks like new tile.

How to Do a Budget Shower Tile Makeover Without Demolition
I’ve written a full, detailed tutorial you can follow step-by-step. You can find it HERE. But here’s the quick overview:
- Clean Thoroughly – Remove all soap scum, hard water stains, and mildew so the paint adheres.
- Tape & Protect – Use painter’s tape to mask edges, fixtures, and areas you don’t want painted.
- Apply Paint – Follow the kit instructions for best results, using light, even coats.
- Cure Time – Let the paint fully cure before using the shower.

Cost & Time Breakdown
This budget shower tile makeover without demolition cost under $70 and took less than two days from start to finish (including dry time). This price doesn’t even compare to what new tile would cost, even if you were DIYing it. If your tile is in great condition like this was, painting it is such a great option.
We will be having a professional come in and refinish the blue tub to make it white. The porcelain tub is also in immaculate condition, so there is no need to tear it out. We have painted tubs before, but budgeted to have a professional do this one to see how that process works. I will be sharing it all here on the blog and on Instagram, and Facebook.

A budget shower tile makeover without demolition is a smart way to update your bathroom without the headache of a full remodel. With the right paint kit and a little work, you can get a like-new look in just a weekend.
