How To Revive Old Wood And Metal With 1 Product

3 Mins read

If you love old wood and metal, this post will show you how to revive old wood and metal with one product to make it look great in your home.

I will always pick up old wood boxes when I find them at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, etc. They are great for storing all kinds of things and they add a ton of charm and character to the space as well. There is just something about found objects that are pretty and functional that will always draw me to them.

I am getting pickier about the boxes I pick up though. I want them to have some markings on them. The more the better.

There is one thing that makes these old boxes even better and that is using one of my favorite products on them to bring out the beauty of the wood and the markings they have.

The one product you need to revive old wood and metal is this salve. This salve has been a game-changer since the first time I opened a can.

How To Apply The Salve

I use the 1/5″ round brush from HERE to apply the salve.

brush in salve

I just rub my brush in the salve.

PRO TIP: A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY! You don’t need to douse the brush. Try less at first and see how the wood takes it. You can’t mess this up. If you use too much, you can always wipe it away. Some wood will need more though because it is so dry and thirsty. Every piece of wood will be different. As you use the brush more and more, you may just have enough salve left over on it to revive some wood pieces. It all depends.

Then, just apply the salve to the box. You will see how the box is taking it right away and if you need more or not.

You can see in the photo above the difference between the part I did and the part untouched. It makes a world of difference.

Look at the difference between the two boxes! I let the salve sit on wood overnight. Then, if I come back the next day and you can still see and feel the salve on top of the wood, I use an old rag and wipe it off. The wood will soak in what it needs. Most of the time, I don’t need to wipe anything away when I am applying it to old wood.

This salve also works on metal!!! It has transformed so many old, metal pieces in our home too.

I love this old metal green stool! It needed some sprucing up though.

applying salve

I do the same process as I do with the wood but the metal won’t soak in as much as the wood.

This salve works amazing!

Look at how the green color really pops now!!! It amazes me every time I get this salve out. For metal pieces, I will let them sit for maybe 30 minutes, and then I will wipe off the excess. It won’t soak in more over time like the wood does.

Once I am done with the salve, I wipe the brush on a paper towel or old rag to remove as much of the excess salve as I can off the brush. Then, I store the brush in a plastic bag until I need to apply salve again. This brush is only used for the salve.

I use this salve for a lot of other things as well. It is one product that I will have on hand all the time. It is amazing to use inside your car! Yep! INSIDE YOUR CAR! After I clean the inside of my car and wipe everything down, I apply the salve on the dash, the leather seats, the inside of the doors, etc. and it makes the world of difference.

Get this stuff in your hands! It comes in a ton of different scents. My favorites are the Tobacco Flower and Teakwood Amber. The first time I opened these scents, I reached out to the company to see if they could make it into a lotion or candle. They are that good. They do have candles and many other products as well.
