French Country Buffet Makeover

3 Mins read

If you love French Country style as much as I do, you’re going to love this project! This French Country Buffet Makeover was such a fun way to give this piece new life. I found this piece at my local Restore shop. Whenever I find buffets and hutches with a ton of potential, I grab them. I thought this particular one had a certain French flair. The soft French Villa color, paired with bold black hardware, transformed this thrifted buffet into a beautiful statement piece.

Why I Love a French Country Buffet Makeover

French Country style has such a timeless, cozy, and elegant feel. This buffet had good bones but needed some personality. By using a warm, neutral paint color and swapping out the hardware, I was able to create that charming look that works in dining rooms, entryways, or even as a TV console.

Supplies Needed for This French Country Buffet Makeover

How to Do a French Country Buffet Makeover

  1. Clean the Buffet Thoroughly
Start by removing the hardware and cleaning the entire piece. To get all my tips for how I clean a piece before a makeover, head to my post HERE. Now is the time to check and see if you need to fill any areas of your piece. I had just a few minor spots to fill. I used this MUD for that.
  2. Lightly Sand the Surface
A quick scuff sand is enough to give the paint something to grab onto. Wipe away the dust with a damp cloth.
  3. Paint in French Villa
Since this paint is all-in-one, I get to skip the primer and topcoat step. This paint has it all built in!!! I recommend this paint to everyone! It’s perfect for beginners and people who have been doing this for over twenty years, like I have. I applied two coats of the French Villa paint, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next. This color is perfect for a French Country buffet makeover because it adds a soft, sophisticated look that works with many styles of decor.
  4. Add Black Hardware
Once the paint is dry, it is time to add the new hardware. This detail makes a huge difference and really completes the French Country buffet makeover.

Why You Should Try a French Country Buffet Makeover

Buffet makeovers are one of my favorite projects because they give you so much bang for your buck. Instead of buying something brand new (and expensive!), you can thrift or shop Facebook Marketplace for a solid wood piece and give it a whole new look for a fraction of the cost. A French Country buffet makeover is also very beginner-friendly. There were no fancy tools needed, and you can complete the project in a weekend.
