Easy Homemade Chocolate Valentines

January 25, 2016 34 Comments

I am thrilled to be a part of this Valentine’s Day Blog Hop! Welcome to the 2016 Valentine’s Day Blog Hop! Danielle from over at Creatively Homespun brought together 20 bloggers to create amazing things for Valentine’s Day! I had to share these easy homemade chocolate valentines for this hop.

If you are looking for a great homemade valentines idea, this is it. Click over to find the recipe for these sweet, homemade chocolate valentines that will make your valentine very happy.

Sometimes it is hard for me to get into the Valentine’s Day groove. I don’t do a ton of decorating for it, but I do love creating valentines and adding small touches of the holiday to our home. After this hop, I have been inspired to embrace Valentine’s Day just like the other holidays.

When I was growing up, Valentine’s Day was one of my favorite days in school. I liked making valentines for my classmates, but I really loved looking through the shoe box I decorated full of valentines my friends made for me. Now that my kids are getting older, they like brainstorming ideas for valentines with me.

This idea started around Christmas. I shared a picture on Instagram and Facebook  of the hot cocoa treats my daughter was gifting to her classmates for Christmas. I got a great response and many people asked me how I made them. Since I didn’t have time to write a post about them at Christmas, I thought I would make a batch for Valentine’s Day.

We are calling these “Cupid’s Remedy To Warm Your Heart” Valentines.

Supplies & Ingredients For These Homemade Valentines:

Milk chocolate chips

Miniature valentine cupcake liners

Valentine sprinkles

Paper straws (You will cut these in half so you will get two out of one straw.)

Valentine treat bags

Mini burlap sacks (You don’t need to use these. I had them on hand and added them at the end.)

Baker’s twine

Free printable

Scissors

Hole punch

(I didn’t give exact amounts of the supplies because that all depends on how many valentines you are making.)

Directions to make “Cupid’s Remedy To Warm Your Heart” Valentine:

If you are looking for a great homemade valentines idea, this is it. Click over to find the recipe for these sweet, homemade chocolate valentines that will make your valentine very happy.

When I sit down to a craft or project like this, I like to get the busy work out of the way first. So, print the valentine tags first. Cut them out and use a hole punch to make a hole at the top of each heart. After that, cut all the valentine straws in half. That way, when you are ready to put these all together, everything is ready to go.

Now, on to the “Cupid’s Remedy” part.

You want to melt your milk chocolate chips so it can be easily poured or spooned into the mini cupcake liners. I do this in the microwave, but you can use a double broiler on the stove as well. To melt it in the microwave, I mix the chocolate chips with about a tablespoon of vegetable oil before it goes in the microwave. Then, I heat it in 45 second intervals. After each interval, I take it out and stir it really well. You want to be careful not to burn the chocolate.

Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into the mini cupcake liners. I fill them about 3/4 full.

After I get them all poured, I stick one half of a valentine straw in the middle and add the valentine sprinkles on top.

I let them sit for at least a couple of hours or even over night. You want to make sure they are fully set up before you put them in the bags.

Once they are set, it is time to put the valentine together.

First, put them in a valentine treat bag and tie with baker’s twine or the tie that comes with the bags.

Then, I put the valentine treat bag inside a red, burlap sack. (Again, you can skip this step. I had enough of these on hand so I used them). I tied the tag to the strings on the burlap bags. If you don’t use burlap bags, use the baker’s twine to tie the tag on the outside of the valentine treat bag.

A little hot milk and a stir of this valentine will have the kids enjoying “Cupid’s Remedy”. 🙂

These valentines are so cute and fun to make. My daughter loved handing them out at Christmas. We will be handing out these to our family, neighbors and friends on Valentine’s Day.

Do your kids have a Valentine’s Party at school? What are they handing out this year?
