This DIY linen closet makeover started on a whim. It was an easy project that made a huge difference.

The project was just going to be painting the linen closet with some leftover white paint.

As we were removing the old shelves to paint, we decided to create new shelves that looked more substantial and nicer.

To save money, we figured out how to get two shelves with one board and how to make the new shelves look thick with a trim piece.

After some measuring, we cut the boards in half in order to get two shelves from one board.

A circular saw made light work of this DIY linen closet makeover.

We clamped the boards to the end of the table to hold them in place as we cut.

The boards got a good sanding before we stained them.

I did not want to paint the new shelves. I wanted them to be chunky wood shelves inside the linen closet. Staining was the best option.

We added a trim piece to the front of the shelves to make the shelves appear chunkier than they were.

After the shelves were installed, it was time to organize. These containers have made all the difference in keeping the closet organized.

I can't believe we took this long to do this linen closet makeover. It was inexpensive and easy to do!
