How To Strip Paint Off Wood Without Traditional Stripper

Ever since I tried this stripping technique on an unpainted mirror, I have wanted to see if it would work on wood that has been painted.

Supplies Used

Oven Cleaner Steel Wool Water Paper Towels Plastic Gloves

This painted wood box was the perfect candidate to try this technique on.

Steps To Strip Paint From Wood:

Spray With Oven Cleaner

Let sit.  Rub over the sprayed area with steel wool.

Try different grit steel wool.

Spray with water and wipe down with paper towel.

You may need to repeat the process on darker painted areas or paint that didn't come off in the initial process.

Let the project full dry.

You can sand once it is fully dry. You can add a topcoat to finish or leave as raw wood.
