Blue Painted Dresser Makeover

2 Mins read

Making over furniture is so much fun. I will always rescue pieces that have potential. This piece was a yard sale find. I knew it was the perfect candidate for a makeover. I was able to try a paint color I have never tried before. This blue painted dresser makeover included many steps, but I think the outcome was well worth it.

dresser before

I knew right away that this dresser had been taken care of., but it had some wear and tear that is natural with pieces of this age. One of my favorite things about it was that is had all the original hardware still intact! That is always a win when hunting for pieces.

(The video linked below in this post will show you the full step-by-step process I took for this blue painted dresser makeover.)

How To Fix Missing Veneer On Furniture

There were some areas that had missing veneer, but nothing crazy. In this post HERE, I shared how to fix mixing veneer like this. That is the method I used for this blue painted dresser makeover.

Since the areas with missing veneer were so small, this method was the perfect solution.

Once the veneer was fixed, it was time for scuff sanding. I LOVE this sander. It has been a game-changer since I got it. It is not too strong and really makes my sanding projects so much easier. I left my coupon code for this sander in the supply list above. Make sure to use it at checkout to save money on your order.

After the scuff sanding, it was ready for paint. I got to try a new color on this piece. When I am selling my pieces, I usually stick with a neutral color. Neutral doesn’t have to mean white, but more muted tones sell a lot better. Neutral goes with all styles so it is a safe color when you are selling flipped pieces. I didn’t want to do another neutral color so grabbed this color for this piece. It is a blue-gray color. I think it definitely leans bluer than it does gray, but it does have a gray undertone. It is a beautiful color.

This dresser needed two coats of paint.

Once the last coat was dry, I sanded it once more with a fine sanding pad. Then, I applied a top coat in the easiest way ever! (Check the video below to see that part too).

I did apply two coats of the top coat on this piece. I waited until the first coat fully dried before I applied the second coat.

When the second coat dried, I put the original hardware back on.

This piece is beautiful now!
